Topic: Five Tips For Creating and Delivering Memorable Safety Presentations
Description: Professional Development Trainer Karen Bolda will share proven tips for enhancing your safety presentations – both experienced presenters and newcomers will benefit from this session. Karen received high marks at our October conference for her seminar on learning styles – she will discuss simple ways you can engage people with different learning styles to maximize your training effectiveness. She’ll also give you tips for choosing the most appropriate media – including when NOT to use Power Point!
Presenter: Karen Bolda, M.A., is a meeting facilitator and professional development trainer who operates her own consulting business in Southern Oregon. She facilitates meetings and provides workshops for clients such as the Bureau of Land Management, USDA Forest Service, Rogue Valley Council of Governments, and Jackson County, as well as holds workshops open to the public. Her focused and efficient meeting facilitation style helps groups move forward to define and meet their goals. Topics covered in her workshops range from meeting facilitation, co-worker communication and learning styles, to tactics for finding and landing a job, including online resumes and mastering interviews. Participants come away with skills they can apply immediately as a result of her honest, pragmatic, and hands on teaching style.
Prior to opening her own consulting business, Karen worked for a total of ten years in natural resource management at the Bureau of Land Management and the Rogue Valley Council of Governments. Karen holds a M.A. in Psychology from San Diego State University and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Illinois.

ASSE Southern Oregon Chapter Members—Updated Chapter Bylaws
Every two years, the President and Executive Committee review the bylaws to make sure they reflect our operations and our intentions for our Chapter. Our members will vote on the revised Bylaws at the March 6, 2012, meeting.
The changes that we propose are fairly simple: ASSE now identifies Chapter boundaries by zip code rather than county, so we’ve incorporated this change. Our region in southern Oregon is essentially the same, but we have given up the counties on California’s northern coast. We have also expanded the duties of the “Communications Chair” to include Public Relations; that person will also lead a committee to carry out Communications and Public Relations functions. In addition to overseeing the newsletter, the Committee will oversee a public relations program, which will include our website and other media outlets, including social networking. Our Grants and Awards Committee Chair will oversee grants and awards, as well as scholarships. Our functions will be less about high school career days and job fairs and more about supporting our members and our community through awards and recognition. Our STARS Coordinator suggested a few changes to better reflect the actual activities of that position.
If you have questions or comments, please direct them to President Mary Hoskins at marhos@saif.com
Thank you!!!
